Auburn Hills, MI.---November 24, 2009---The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, announced today that Jim McDonald has been re-elected by his peers on the Auburn Hills City Council to serve as Mayor for another two-year term. Mr. McDonald has served on the City Council since 1989. He was first elected Mayor in 1995 and was re-elected in 1997. Most recently, Mr. McDonald served as Mayor from 2007 through 2009. With his election at the November 23rd City Council meeting, Mr. McDonald begins his fifth term as Mayor of Auburn Hills.
Auburn Hills is managed under the Council/Manager form of government, with Peter Auger continuing in the position of City Manager. The Mayoral role is to serve as the executive officer of the city and the official head of the city for ceremonial purposes, as well as purposes of military law and the service of legal process upon the city. The Mayor presides at all City Council meetings but speaks and votes in such meetings as any other member of the Council.
Also at the November 23rd meeting, the Council voted Maureen Hammond as Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor Pro Tem steps in when the Mayor is unavailable. Previously, Mari Harvey-Edwards served as Mayor Pro Tem. Ms. Harvey-Edwards did not seek re-election to the City Council after serving since 1997.
Mr. McDonald is a lifelong resident of Auburn Hills and is pleased to continue in his role as Mayor.

Mayor Pro Tem Maureen Hammond is a long-term resident of Auburn Hills and has served on the City Council since 2005.
